We take responsibility. In our work and for our actions. We strive to secure the future. For our clients, our law firm and our team, and for the environment and society.

We inspire each other as a team and all of us keep coming up with new, good ideas. Sustainable thinking is already embedded in our day-to-day operations. Many small and several significant measures have been implemented and continue to support the sustainable development of our firm. We also want to raise awareness among our clients and other firms, too, and to motivate them to take small, proactive steps – because every step counts. Be inspired!

Catering

The caterers we partner with are also committed to sustainability, are carbon neutral and offer a wide range of vegetarian and vegan options. When ordering food and drink for our kitchenettes we make sure, wherever possible, that we choose organic, regional and seasonal, and fair-trade products, avoid packaging waste and provide vegan alternatives.

Sustainable mobility

Wherever possible, we take the train for any necessary domestic business trips that cannot be replaced by a virtual meeting and only very occasionally go by car. We offset the carbon footprint of any unavoidable international flights at the end of the year. At our offices in Frankfurt we have an office bicycle for staff to use to get around the city.

Holistic leadership

In mid-2022, kallan's management team started a year-long training programme with the Swedish Di ScaleUp Academy for entrepreneurs to further their education in the field of business management. With the tools learned, kallan's goals and values become even more tangible and therefore more important in daily business for the entire team. The systematic-strategic approach of the programme based on the ScalingUp method created by the American Verne Harnish enables the management to plan and shape kallan's continued success effectively, holistically and sustainably.

All of the electricity in our offices in Frankfurt and Berlin comes from 100% renewable sources.

Cyber security & data protection

The more we digitise our business processes and integrate new and innovative solutions, the greater our information security and data protection requirements. We meet the resulting challenges by continually reviewing, adapting and expanding our IT systems, guidelines and processes together with service providers and partners, who are, for instance, ISO 27001 certified.

The principle of equal pay is and has always been applied by us and is consistently implemented.

Green communication

We mostly communicate digitally, which reduces our paper consumption to a minimum. Any necessary hard copies are printed out on environmentally friendly recycled paper. We offset the carbon emissions generated by the production and use of our printers and multifunctional devices by supporting a climate offset project in Morocco through ClimatePartner.

With our Frankfurt office in the ONE tower, we have consciously chosen one of Germany’s most sustainable and technologically advanced office towers. Social engagement

We support voluntary work of our employees in organisations such as the boards of the Swedish Bar Association (Sveriges advokatsamfund), the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Germany and the German-Nordic Association of Lawyers as well as the activities of the Swedish Honorary Consulate General in Frankfurt. We are also a partner with Planet Tree, which is helping to reforest Germany.

05–Gender equality

Having a well-balanced team is just as important to us as a healthy work-life balance and equal career opportunities for all. That’s why we offer flexible working models and individual solutions. We have an above-average number of female partners in our management team and work with organisations that promote women in business.

We want to ensure decent working conditions for all our staff. For us, that encompasses workplace equipment, continuous professional development, and transparent and ongoing communication. We also expect our service providers and suppliers to meet all the relevant labour law standards.

12–Responsible consumption and production

Before we purchase anything, we first decide whether it’s actually necessary or whether there are any alternatives. Sustainability criteria are applied when we buy equipment and office supplies. And we make sure that the food and drink we order in is produced to fair-trade standards and is seasonal and regional. We’ve drawn up guidelines that set out these principles.

13–Climate action

Climate protection has a bearing on all areas of our work. We’ve re-evaluated all our travel practices and whenever possible take the train for domestic business trips. We offset the carbon footprint of any unavoidable flights. We’ve switched to green electricity and are mindful of energy efficiency when it comes to lighting, printers and servers.

16–Peace, justice and strong institutions

As an organ of the administration of justice, we have a responsibility to stand up for the principles of the rule of law, and we work with national and international associations in this field.

17–Partnerships for the goals

We’re a member of the following associations: the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA), the German Federal Association of Commercial Law Firms (BWD), the International Bar Association and the Swedish Bar Association. Networking within these organisations helps us come up with more concrete ideas on how to implement the SDGs. We also support Planet Tree.
